The project aims to implement emergency interventions at three heritage sites dating from the late Byzantine to early 20th century. The sites are located within the city of Manbij in Northern Syria and include the Al-Antabi tomb, the Syriac Church, and an Ottoman bathhouse.
The project aims to implement emergency interventions at three heritage sites dating from the late Byzantine to early 20th century. The sites are located within the city of Manbij in Northern Syria and include the Al-Antabi tomb, the Syriac Church, and an Ottoman bathhouse.
The goals of the project are to train local professionals, evaluate the damage to sites and restore them, as well as creating a link with the civil society through activities and awareness events. Another aim of our Manbij project is to give international significance to the site, through the creation of a digital map of the city and the creation of a publicly available digital and physical depository of the completed works and a short film documenting the program.
In 2023, we trained 17 local professionals in order to give them the necessary skills to protect their cultural heritage, as well as organising visits to the city in order to prepare for the rehabilitation of destroyed sites.
