Alternative Mexico preserving and promoting Mexico City's heritage resources, based on social and national values, using a mobile application (App) for iOS and Android devices, a website, and social media.
The continuous expansion of Mexico's infrastructure capacity to increase Mexico’s GDP, and to provide citizens with goods and services, has created new spaces promoting different ways of life that have been appropriated with time and are now part of her heritage. Mexico City’s citizens claim to preserve an urban-based heritage, which unfortunately opposes national and international institutional definitions of heritage. Urban heritage resources have no right to be legally protected for lack of monumentality, historical or aesthetical value. When infrastructure building puts people's heritage at risk, people are on the streets demanding its preservation. Alternative Mexico has listened to their demand. The project identifies heritage resources by building a strategic alliance with the public as part of a value chain teaching-research transfer. It demonstrates that people's resources have outstanding value to the nation's history and are essential to promote social sustainability and peace.
