Documentation and description of Iñapari (inp) - an Arawakan language of Southern Peru
The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).
The purpose of this project is to continue documentation and description of Iñapari (Purus, Arawak), a language spoken by four individuals in southern Peru. The speakers are siblings whose father was one of only two Iñapari speakers to escape a forced relocation to Bolivia. Little work has been done to describe the language beyond a phonemic inventory. The goal of this project is to document and describe the structure of the language as well as record oral histories. Specific outcomes include a detailed grammar, a lexical database, and an archived corpus of transcribed and analyzed audio and video recordings. |
