Ahead of the Nautical Archaeology Society training in Lebanon a dive course was organised by the Lebanese University of Sidon in 2017 and 2018 to prepare the course participants with diver training and refresher dives to refine their diving skills.
The Nautical Archaeology Society (NAS) undertook two one-week fieldschools in maritime archaeological training in Balamand (2017) and Sidon (2018), Lebanon which was supported by the Honor Frost Foundation. The courses was offered free of charge and attended by a number of Lebanese archaeology students of archaeology. Two stages of diving preparation were conducted ahead of each course in order to prepare the participants for the NAS field-school. During the first phase, the participants had to undertake their open water certification which involved academic classes, pool sessions and sea dives. The second phase consisted of refresher dives and aimed at refining the participants’ diving skills.
