In 2009 the Alexandria Centre for Maritime Archaeology & Underwater Cultural Heritage was established to create a specialised centre for postgraduate studies which provides education and training at different levels in aspects of maritime and underwater archaeology, and to develop a Postgraduate Diploma and Master programmes in Maritime Archaeology and Underwater Cultural Heritage. The specific grant awarded was to enable students to participate in relevant training not offered by the CMAUCH or be awarded bursaries to attend conferences.
The Honor Frost Foundation supports a number of projects through the CMAUCH, including work at the site of Marsa Bagoush and the Sadana Island Shipwreck, alongside this the HFF funds a number of bursaries and scholarships through the centre which is the specific nature of this award.
