ARCE Sphinx Archive: Digital Data Base Project
The conservation and online publication of the archive of the 1979-1983 ARCE Sphinx Project, led by James Allen and Mark Lehner. The records of this project formed the basis of Lehner's 1991 PhD dissertation at Yale University. Project Director: Mark Lehner
The ARCE Sphinx Project Archive conserved and made accessible the archive of the 1979-1983 ARCE Sphinx Project, the only systemic survey and architectural study of the Great Sphinx of Giza. The project catalogued, digitized and posted online through Open source photographs, architectural drawings, maps, notes, journal entries, narratives reports that for more than 35 years at the time, remained largely unpublished and otherwise inaccessible to Egyptologists, archaeologists, and art historians. The ARCE Sphinx Project Archive contributes a unique record towards understanding the Sphinx as a complex archaeological and architectural site in its own right. |
