A comprehensive documentation of Talamancan Bríbri (Chibchan, Costa Rica)
The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).
This project aims at the creation of a comprehensive corpus of the two Talamancan dialects of Bríbri: Amubre and Coroma (Jara Murillo, 2004a). Video recordings in various naturalistic settings, partly recorded independently by the Bribri community, will be complemented with documentation of spontaneous speech, different genres of oral tradition, culturally-relevant sites, as requested by the communites involved. Research will be focused on the Bribri's ergativity and the expression of information structure. |
