Preservation of the Ancient (700-1530 AD) Stone Spheres of the Diquís
This project, which includes the documentation of four sphere sites in the Diquis delta, directly supports the U.S. embassy’s efforts to contribute towards economic development and diversification in communities beyond the capital city of San José.
The alluvial plain between the Terraba and Sierpe rivers in southern Costa Rica was a favorable area for ancient human settlements that left their marks in the form of large stone spheres. [Photo credit: Project organizer]
