First Aid Interventions to the World Heritage Site of Hatra after Daesh Occupation
This project will restore the sculptural decoration and one of the temples and provide on the job training to young Iraqi conservators and archaeologists.
Located in an isolated area of the desert steppe of northern Iraq, Nineveh Governorate, Hatra is the best-preserved and most informative example of a Parthian city (2nd-3rd century BCE). It was occupied by Daesh in 2014 and placed on the World Heritage in Danger List in July 2015. This project will restore the sculptural decoration and one of the temples and provide on the job training to young Iraqi conservators and archaeologists.
