Documentation of Lubolo-Ngoya, Angola
The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).
This project is a pilot study on a minority language of Angola, Lubolo, part of a cluster of related Bantu languages spoken in the Kwanza Sul province. Angolan languages, especially smaller regional ones like Lubolo are actively threatened by the ongoing and rapid shift towards monolingualism in Portuguese throughout the country. Angola is still severely underrepresented in the area of language documentation. This project would be the first documentation project done in Angola funded by the ELDP. The focus of the project lies on agricultural practices and endangerment dynamics. |
