Documentation and description of Tidikelt-Tuat Tamazight, an endangered Berber language

The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).

The purpose of the project is the urgent documentation of Tidikelt, a Berber language spoken in Algeria, in Tamanrasset province: In Salah area, Tidikelt, and Tit south, which is considered moribund by Ethnologue (1000 speakers in 2011 and less according to the local population).Through linguistic fieldwork, I will create a body of primary data useful for the community and for berberologists working on the comparison of Berber varieties; I will document the main characteristics of these languages, particularly with regard to phonology, morphosyntax and speech. The expected results of the project are: a translated, transcribed and annotated corpus of the language, a sketch grammar and a lexicon.
