A documentation of Belait, an Austronesian language of Brunei.
The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).
Belait is an undocumented Western Austronesian language from the Berawan-Lower Baram group, spoken in Brunei, Borneo. There were reported to be approximately 700 speakers in 1995, scattered across several villages in the Tutong and Belait districts. This documentation aims to collect a range of audio and video text materials accompanied by time-aligned transcriptions, glossing and translations into English and Malay. All material will be archived with ELAR. |
