The documentation and description of Kurudu, an Austronesian language of Eastern Indonesia
The Endangered Language Documentation Programme (ELDP) provides grants worldwide for the documentation of endangered languages and knowledge. Grantees create audiovisual collections with transcription and translations of endangered languages and practices. These collections are preserved and made freely available through the Endangered Languages Archive (ELAR).
The project aims to document Kurudu, an Austronesian language from Papua. Based on fieldwork from 2023 and two months of fieldwork in 2024, the project will result in: - Open Access scientific description of Kurudu. - Audio + video recordings in ELAR + annotated texts. - Wordlist of 2000+ items. - Booklet, printed + online PDF, with grammar sketch in Indonesian + English, translated texts, and wordlists. - Subtitled videos of several genres, freely accessible. - 1 hr of video recording of related Wabo language, transcription and wordlists - Wordlists + paradigms from four other Wabo/Kurudu varieties. |
