Preservation of the Ancient Rock Carved City of Uplistsikhe

This project, which involves site documentation and monitoring, directly supports the Embassy's efforts to assist with Georgia's economic development and to promote tourism.

Built on a high bank of the Mtkvari River, Uplistsikhe (literally, "the lord's fortress") consists of both Christian and non-Christian structures dating from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages. [Photo credit: Project organizer]
