The Welfare Association (UK)

The Welfare Association (WA) was registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales in 1993 (Registered charity number No. 1020238) and works to support some of the most marginalised Palestinian families and communities in the West Bank and Gaza and in the refugee camps and gatherings of Lebanon. Our international development and emergency relief projects are funded through the EC, DFID, UK trusts, foundations, British public and through fundraising events.

What we do and how

Together with local partners we work with the most vulnerable Palestinian communities in the West Bank and Gaza and in the refugee camps in Lebanon to overcome poverty, in several ways:

  • By providing emergency aid and supporting basic services during times of crisis
  • By developing proposals and programmes that meet the needs of local communities
  • By developing the skills and capacity of local NGOs
  • By supporting the rights of local communities and advocating with and on behalf of local communities to achieve change

Our work is focussed in the following key areas:

  1. Emergency relief in times of crisis
  2. Support for health services
  3. Support for education services
  4. Other sustainable development programmes e.g. livelihoods, housing rehabilitation
