It contributes to the preservation and social relevance of cultural heritage and works to promote a sustainable and high-quality Baukultur. It also supports amateur culture, living traditions and traditional craftsmanship, and promotes plurilingualism and understanding between linguistic and cultural areas. At the international level, the Federal Office of Culture works to safeguard cultural heritage and cultural diversity. It is responsible for a number of institutions, including the Swiss National Library.
